The way midviwes are thought of
Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers. They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. And they also provide postpartum care.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they have rules and regulations and they also have a governing body.But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?
The misunderstanding stems from the practice of giving birth at home. In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused. People usually think delivering a baby at home is unsafe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe.Midwives also carry necessary medical equipments in case something unavoidable happens. And in general because of the method of deliveries most complications are avoided.
This is the part where the benefits come in. As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor.No medicine is being used to limit the pain experienced by the mother during birthing.But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster. Because most women don’t realize medication actually slows down delivery. So by avoiding medication they don’t slow down the delivery.
And when the mother decides to undergo water birthing more positive things can be benfited by both the mother and the baby. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.
As you can see there are some things that people wrongly think of about midwives and their chosen profession.But here’s hoping that people would recognize the safety of this method as long as the pregnancy is low-risk.And midwives also have rules and regulations given by a governing body. So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling.They know some medical procedures that may be needed in their said profession.So mothers should not worry about their safety while giving birth since midwives have all the necessary medical equipments for emergency purposes. It is a viable choice for women.
