Games For Baby Showe Parties

Baby shower games have the sort of reputation that sometimes makes people roll their eyes and groan a little. These games are regarded as an inevitable part of baby showers, but often are seen as silly little things that you have to grit your teeth through. After all, you’re all doing it for the mother, and putting up with some silliness is what you do before the opening of the actual baby gifts. But some of these games can be fun, and not make people cringe.

One simple and popular game for a baby shower doesn’t even require the shower guests to interrupt the flow of the party in order to participate. Each person wears a string around her neck, with several baby pins or safety pins hanging from it. Any time she uses the word “baby” during the shower, someone else can call her on it and take one of her pins. The person wearing the most pins around their neck at the end of the evening wins the game. Among shower ideas, this game idea seems to satisfy a lot of people.

There are a couple of baby shower games that are variations on the child’s “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” type of game, though some of these might raise an eyebrow or two. Less controversial would be the one where you “pin the baby on the mommy,” but the “pin the sperm on the egg” version might have to be set aside, depending on the sensitivity of the shower guests. Sometimes if you have chosen a specific theme in your baby shower planning, the theme itself will suggest certain games. If the shower is rather subdued, and with the use of fine china dishes, then you’ll have quieter games than if your theme is “baby’s first voyage.”

You can stage baby shower games in which the participants are quite active, or instead choose those that are more intellectual. For example, people might enjoy answering trivia questions about the mother or guessing the number of Q-tips or folded diapers in a container. If you really are worried about throwing a baby shower and making a bunch of reluctant people play games, you can still fit some in but tone them down a bit. You are not tied to any particular games, but can tailor them to the guest list.
